Newman 100 Celebration: June 9, 2013

Please note that the Newman Centennial Celebrations originally scheduled on Pentecost Sunday, May 19 have been postponed to Sunday, June 9 after the 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Masses.  All are welcome to join us for free food, entertainment and fellowship.  An open house and history exhibit are being planned to showcase our rich history and the charm of the Matthews House (commonly known as the Newman Centre).

Raising Faith-Filled Kids

A discussion group for first-time parents and babies

 What: A series of 6 discussion group sessions based on the book entitled Raising Faith-Filled Kids by Tom McGrath

The discussion group aims to help first-time parents discover how to nurture a living faith in their children. Each session is based on a theme and includes a short prayer, group discussion questions, and questions for individual reflection.

Who: First-time parents of young babies (babies welcome, of course!)

When: Thursday afternoons, 1:00 - 2:30 p.m. from April 18 - May 23

Where: The Newman Centre, 89 St. George St., Toronto, Ontario M5S 2E8  

Cost: Attending the sessions are free. The only cost is for the book and the discussion guide (approximately $20 before taxes)

ShareLife Bake Sale


On Sunday, April 21, there will be at least two ways to contribute to the 2013 ShareLife campaign: 1) Bring a batch of home-baked goodies to the House before Mass, and/or 2) Treat yourself after the service to a brownie, cookie, or cupcake (or two, or six!). Baking will be available for purchase after both the morning and evening Masses. Hope to see you there!

Join us for Prayer and Discussion

A Pilgrim's Journey with Christ: Where Catholic Living Becomes Daily Living

What: A series of 6 sessions that aim to help us understand what it means to be a Catholic beyond going to Mass

Who: Young adults between the ages of 18 and 25

When: Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:30 p.m., except for March 13, when we will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Student Residency at the Newman Centre

Are you, or do you know a Catholic university student in Toronto who wants to live out your faith in a community? Consider applying for a student residency at the Newman Centre. As part of our Student Campus Ministry team, you will engage in chaplaincy outreach, liturgy, and community life, while witnessing to your Catholic faith as a university or college student. Private room and shared or private bath, food and utilities are provided at a reasonable rate.

Summer Term (May-August, 2013)
Fall/Winter (September 2013 - April 2014)

Application deadlines: April 5, 2013 (for Summer Term applicants), or April 26, 2013 (for Fall/Winter applicants)
