Newman Centre is involved in this Gospel-centred and interfaith outreach to the marginalized in our city. The program runs from November through April.
Commitment: Newman Centre Volunteers work in two-hour shifts from 5:00 p.m. (Thursday evening) to 8:00 a.m. (Friday mornings).
The Out of the Cold Program operates one night per week during the coldest months of the year -- November to April --and provides meals and emergency shelter to people who are homeless. The Out of the Cold program has over 50 locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
The Newman Centre, along with several other faith communities, operate the Out of the Cold shelter at Saint Matthew's United Church, which is located at 729 St. Clair Street West (just west of Christie Street). Newman Centre Volunteers work in two-hour shifts from 5:00 p.m. (Thursday evening) to 8:00 a.m. (Friday mornings).
This location provides: Snacks; Coffee; Clothing; Basic Nursing Care; Foot Care; Movie; Referral Services; Warm Meal; Overnight Accommodation; Breakfast; TTC ticket; Housing worker; Bagged Lunch; and Blankets.
